Ancient Egyptian Pyramids By Emma Smith
Pyramids are built for the most important people of ancient Egypt. Usually these people are the Pharaohs. These monuments will last a long time. Sadly, people forgot how the pyramids are built so we began at "The Valley of the Kings" which is an area dug from cliffs or mounds. One down side of having the pyramids is that they some times have been robbed by the workers here. The Great Pyramid, which was built in Giza, is the tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It is thought that to have been built around 2550 BC. It was 150 metres high and contained about 2300 000 granite blocks that weighed around 2.5 tonnes. It is still a mystery what tools they used to build it. They carried the block of granite by moving the blocks over logs. Before they did this they put the blocks on a ship and sailed down the Nile. The pyramids took a long time to make, over years. They need a lot of people to build a pyramid, so some times there are be people ask to help them build it, if they didn't decline, because this is the resting place of the son of a God. Inside the pyramid there was air shafts, Pharaoh's burial chamber, the Grand gallery, False chamber (which was use to make the thefts believe that was where the chamber of the Pharaoh which is where all the Pharaoh's belonging most are made out valuable material.) there are different parts of the pyramid e.g. Ascending corridor, Descending corridor, the entrance and the Queen's chamber. Sometimes the queen has a small pyramid made for them usually right next to the Kings. The sphinx is usually found in front of the pyramids. The Great sphinx of Giza is the largest statue and pyramid in the world. the sphinx standing 73.5 metres long, 19.3 metres wide, and 20.22 m (66.34 ft) high. the sphinx is made out of lime stone.
